People really cannot catch the flaws in the education system unless they make a personal effort to supplement their children's education. The Omaha Public School District is a disaster area. Once parents find out, they pull their kids out or work heavier to supplement their child's education.

Nationwide, NE taxpayer spending per student is about average, but NE test scores are below average and declining. I believe it's time for the State Teachers Union to drop the "best schools in the nation" propaganda. Boasting only draws additional attention to the problem.

Then let them continue to boast, as it exposes their lie for all to see. Drawing attention to the problem IS the objective.

You're right, but propaganda is powerful unless you pull back the curtain, which I'm glad to see The Plains Sentinel doing.

Who is behind the "Public School Proud" propaganda? Wonder what they'd say about the test results.

I’m sure throwing more money at the government school system will fix the problem. Look how much money in the last 60 years we have throw at it and it just keeps nosediving. Their has to be some amount that will stop the slide. maybe property taxes need to go up to 15%. We know the current rate is not enough.

Government schools, government run anything the punishment for failure is promotions, more admiration as to how great the highly compensated administration and other adults are and more money. Oh the sacrifices these people make to make our children stupid.

Its about 60 years past time to admit government schools like any other government program are a failure. Their is no “fixing” them. The ONLY way to fix them is to close them and put it to private enterprise making the state funding follow the children where ever they go. Private, religious, home it does not matter. To those saying government should not be funding religious schools - uh you are forcing everyone to fund your cult ( belief in government). I resent having to fund the religion of government at the point of a gun.

Nebraska had a chance to get some competition in this hot mess of the government religious center. However the racist/elitist teachers union killed that, we cannot have poor, minorities escaping their plantation.

Look at the proficiency scores at Benson, Bryan and South high schools in Omaha. Shockingly bad.

Also look at how Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama have radically improved education in their states. Three states that were at the bottom are now at the top.

The NSEA is to blame for Nebraska's failure. But the NSEA has the same tired and failed excuses about why its members can't do their jobs.

HYPOTHESIS: Lower test scores correlate with the narcassism of administrators who fail to take responsibility for their failures.

This may well be the most impactful exploration, examination and reporting that The Plains Sentinel could undertake in these days. Today is lost. We can only earnestly effort and pray to salvage tomorrow. Please readers, share these reports widely with leaders and voters that you know of all political persuasions.
