The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) announced on Sunday that it had arrested Jose Ortega-Romero, 32, for allegedly driving through a red light and killing a 70-year-old Omaha man identified as Christopher Szalkowski.
The office said that it discovered during the crash investigation that Ortega-Romero is not a U.S. citizen.
“Ortega-Romero lacked United States identification and presented Deputies with photo I.D. issued by the country of Mexico’s consulate,” DCSO said in a statement. “Hanson contacted local leadership at the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and made them aware of ORTEGA-ROMERO’s booking. As a result of that notification, I.C.E. issued a detainer on ORTEGA-ROMERO due to his illegal status in the United States.”
DSCO said that following Ortega-Romero “posting bond,” ICE plans on taking custody of him.
The illegal alien is facing a charge of motor vehicle homicide.

When voters cast their votes, know that 22 Dem Senators and 156 Dems in the House voted against Sarah's Law. The Dems would have let this guy out on bail; certainly to flee to Mexico.
