Members of the Nebraska federal delegation weighed in on President Donald Trump’s proposed Iran agreement this week, saying they are waiting on final details but were appreciative of the president looking to negotiate a deal.
Senator Deb Fischer said in a statement Sunday that she was thankful that Trump was “bringing the Iranian terrorist regime to the negotiating table through a position of American strength. I am praying for a resolution that ends Iran's nuclear threat and ushers in a new era of peace and stability for the region.”
Congressman Mike Flood said on Tuesday that he was “encouraged” by news of the deal.
“While details are still emerging, I am encouraged by the deal negotiated by President Trump and hopeful that it will prevent Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon, limit its ability to support terrorist groups, and keep the Strait of Hormuz open,” Flood said.
Ricketts said in a statement on Monday that he “appreicate[s] the Trump Administration’s continued efforts to negotiate a diplomatic solution with Iran.” The senator said he is looking forward to learning more about the details of the deal.
A spokesperson for Congressman Don Bacon told The Plains Sentinel that Bacon is waiting on final details of the agreement before issuing a statement.
Trump has claimed the deal between the U.S. and Iran will include Iran never getting a nuclear weapon and the Strait of Hormuz reopening. Vice President JD Vance said in an interview on Tuesday that the details of the deal have not been released yet because of “sensitivities” in the “Muslim world.”
“The reason why we haven’t released it yet is there are some delicate diplomatic things going on,” Vance told Megyn Kelly. “I don’t, frankly, fully understand it, but there are sensitivities that exist in the Arab and Muslim world that we’re trying to be responsive to.”
Vance said the text would be release at the latest on Friday.
