A new survey found that Democratic voters want President Trump “out by (almost) any means necessary,” including a potential military coup. The poll was released by Liberal Currents and the Center for Strategic Politics, a progressive-leaning group that provides “data and insights” to Democratic organizations and leaders.
The survey, released Monday, showed 56% of respondents said they would have a positive reaction if they woke up and “Trump died overnight in his sleep,” while only 16% would have a negative reaction. In response to a question about military leaders removing Trump from power and assuming control of the U.S. government, 59% had a positive reaction, while only 28% had a negative reaction.
While most Democrats want Trump removed in a constitutionally outlined manner — either through impeachment or use of the 25th Amendment — 32% said they would have a positive reaction if he were assassinated while speaking at a rally.
The survey found that the majority of Democrats want the Supreme Court packed, 69%, and the filibuster abolished, 52%. In picking the next Democratic president, upholding the Constitution was a common response by those interviewed.
“Restoring our democracy and upholding the constitution. The three branches of government should be equal in power and the executive branch has usurped that power,” one respondent said. “Likewise, the Supreme Court is packed with right wing judges who are lining their pockets and interpreting constitutional issues in very narrow ways to promote a right wing agenda.”
The survey also found large majorities of Democrats support prosecutions against the Trump administration, including members of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, as well as prosecuting administration officials involved with the War in Iran and “actions taken related to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”
According to the poll, the three frontrunners for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination are former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The poll was conducted with 683 Democratic voters across the United States.
