Has name calling replaced respectable dialogue when opinions differ? The same parents that oppose the GLOVE to de-escalate violence are the same parents that will be outraged when an SRO person is forced to use physical force to shut down a volatile situation. The goal of the GLOVE is to be an effective and safe way to quell a situation, inflicting as little physical discomfort as possible. If the student is white, it's not racist, but if the student is Black, it probably is. What hogwash. People have to get past playing the race card when there is no evidence race is relevant. Deal with facts, not feelings. And lastly, it's a shame the authorities submit to the loudest, most obnoxious screamers. Don't let malcontents dictate policy.
The greatest threat to Omaha's children are weak leaders like Mayor John Ewing. Lt. Col. David Grossman (retired professor of psychology at West Point) says our children as like sheep. They are the targets of wolves. School Resource Officers (SROs) are sheepdogs who protect our children. Mayor Ewing has allowed himself to be bullied by radicals who want to take away the tools SROs need to keep our children safe. The next time there's violence in our schools, the blood will be on Ewing's hands.
Sounds to me like the race card and name calling was played often in this little meeting. If OPS wants officers in their schools, maybe they should try hiring a private security service instead. If you don't have the tools to enforce discipline, then what is the point? Free up the Omaha police to do their jobs and quit wasting time and resources providing services for OPS.
I'm guessing the gentleman who wants to get rid of OPD would change his tune pretty quick in the event of a robbery of his person or property. For now, it's easier to call them names and denigrate them because "they don't like OPD"
