Governor Jim Pillen and Democratic challenger Lynne Walz cast their ballots on Tuesday morning ahead of the midterm elections. Pillen voted in Columbus at Berean Church while Walz voted at First Lutheran Church in Fremont.
“I feel really optimistic about this election,” Walz told The Plains Sentinel after voting. “The last four years, people have told me that they feel our political system is broken, our economy is broken, our finances are broken, our relationships are broken, and they are ready for change.”
The former state senator said she planned to “hunker down” ahead of the election results tonight. “Maybe I’ll make some soup or something, or cookies,” she said.
Pillen told The Plains Sentinel it has been a “privilege” to serve Nebraska and he hopes voters will give him four more years. The governor was joined at the polls with his wife, Suzanne, and son, Izic.
“Serving Nebraska is a privilege off the charts — and Suzanne and I would be honored to earn another four years,” Pillen said. “If you haven’t voted yet, there’s still time. Stand up for our values and the future of our state. Take a friend or coworker with you. Vote!”
When asked if she was ready for election results to come in late, Walz said that she is not usually a night owl. “That’s not me,” she said. “Because I’m in bed by 8:30. I might have to take a little nap between making cookies.”
