U.S. Senator Deb Fischer attended a weekend cocktail party thrown for D.C. journalists, lobbyists, and influencers ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The party was hosted by Grindr, an LGBTQ+ dating and hook-up app.
The party was attended by many members of the D.C. elite, including the Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, TV Host Don Lemon, and CNN’s Kaitlin Collins. Fischer is the only reported U.S. senator to attend the party, which took place on Friday.
Grindr markets itself as “the world’s largest network for gay, bi, trans, and queer adults.” According to Politico, the company is looking to expand its lobbying footprint in D.C.
Joe Hack, the former chief of staff for Fischer, is the company’s head of global government affairs. Hack told Politico last week in the run-up to the party that the company was looking to push its policy priorities in Washington.
“We’re planting a flag,” he said. “We’ve been doing policy work here now for a year, and the issues we care about are important not just to us, but to our community.”
So far, the company has spent $1.6 million in lobbying since it registered a year ago. The company is targeting bills that would require age-verification to use its app, as well as supporting legislation related to “surrogacy and IVF access for same-sex couples.”
The Plains Sentinel has reached out to Fischer and Hack for comment on the story.
