The ‘Trump Barn’ Unexpectedly Loses Its Banner, Sparking Speculation

OMAHA – The “Trump Barn” is something of a political landmark along Interstate 80, lying just 3.5 miles west of the Platte River near the 262nd Street overpass.
During the 2016 election, owner Alan Volger hung a giant, prominent banner from his freshly painted red barn, with large bold letters that simply read “TRUMP.” It has remained up ever since—even after the election.
Volger commented on this at a banquet for the pro-life organization Life Runners in 2025.
“After Trump got elected, I thought I might take it down,” Volger told me last year. “But then Ernie Chambers started complaining about it, and I got to thinking, ‘Hey, he’s got to see that every day on his way to work.’ So I thought I would just leave it up a little while Longer.”
Other candidates have also shared the space on the giant red barn, including Charles Herbster, Matt Innis, Brett Lindstrom, and Don Bacon. The Life Runners have also had a banner there since 2025.
On Sunday, however, the banner unexpectedly came down, and it did not go unnoticed, sparking some discussion online about why it disappeared.
“Yeah, actually I’ve gotten a few calls already,” Volger said.
The banner’s sudden disappearance had no more complicated answer than Mother Nature.
“The wind blew it off,” commented one Reddit user. “I saw it this morning and half the sign was loose, flapping around in the wind.”
The Plains Sentinel was able to confirm this with Volger on Monday.
“Nobody came and got it, and I didn’t get mad at anybody—just Mother Nature decided I needed to get out of the advertising business again.”
The Trump banner is apparently the second to grace the side of the barn in recent years.
No word yet on whether there will be a third anytime soon.
